Dennis Ritchie

Sadly, Dennis Ritchie, of C and UNIX fame passed away on 10/12. Surprisingly, at least for me, a life long *nix user, there was very little coverage.

For those that do not know, Ritchie helped with the creation of the B language and the first UNIX system while at ATT in the late 60s early 70s. While at ATT he accomplished many things, including creation of one of the most popular computer programming languages, one that still persists in popularity today, the C language.

Dennis was also known to be a hacker, and was responsibility for a crypto attack on a well known cipher machine, but chose not to release the attack at the NSAs request.

RIP Dennis 1941-2011
